We paid a visit to the charming village of Deir Al Qamar the other week for a relaxing weekend in the mountains of Chouf.
Deir Al Oumara is quite a popular hotel among locals and visitors. It has a rich history and heritage having once been a palace in 1827 and then a boarding school École des Frères in 1908. [Read the entire story here]
Checking in at Deir Al Oumara
There are many signboards leading to the Deir al Oumara Hotel so it wasn’t difficult to reach. Checking in was a breeze.
The hotel is STUNNING. Every single detail remains devoted to its heritage, allowing us to be a part of its story.
The Room
Deir Al Oumara features 18 en-suite rooms and (high-ceiling) suites, each having a private bathroom, in-room amenities, TV and free WiFi.
There are 3 types of rooms: Standard Room (25-35 m2, for 2 persons), Grand Suite (70 m2, for 2 persons) and Family Suite (70 m2, for 4 persons).
We chose a vibrant colourful standard room for our weekend staycation at Deir Al Oumara. I believe it is number 14.
The room is the ideal size for two persons and the bed is ultra comfortable!
Rooms run from approximately USD $130 a night to USD $220. Breakfast (which is awesome!) is complimentary.
Note: Check-in starts at 3pm and check-out is at noon.
Breakfast and Dining at Soufrat Al Oumara
Soufrat Al Oumara, the hotel’s restaurant, offers hotel guests as well as visitors breakfast, lunch and dinner indoors in the converted chapel as well as outdoors in the picturesque courtyard.
The best part of a staycation is breakfast. Do you agree?
Throughout the week, breakfast is a set menu of Lebanese staples including manakish, foul, eggs your way, cheese, toast and jam, coffee, tea and juice.
On Sundays, Deir Al Oumara lays out a decadent breakfast buffet.
It’s good to note that room service is not currently available unless you want a drink or perhaps something to snack on.
What about lunch at Deir Al Oumara Hotel?
The menu is unpretentious featuring Lebanese comfort foods such as lamb freeke, moghrabieh and mloukhieh. Since it was a hot summer’s day, we opted for traditional Lebanese mezze. The food was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend you check them out for lunch or dinner even if you aren’t staying as a guest. The ambience and food is well worth a trip to Deir Al Oumara.
Soufrat Al Oumar is open everyday from 7:30 am – 11:30 pm.
Final Verdict?
Deir Al Oumara is a short walk away from the main public square of Deir Al Qamar and offers the most magical views of the mountains in Chouf. It was really the perfect escape from the city, offering a serene, relaxing and cozy ambiance.
