Tout Autour du Pain roughly translated means “all around bread”, and the owner and baguette award-winner, Benjamin Turquier, really knows his stuff.
Baguette de Tradition at this upper Marais bakery is definitely a winner in my book!
Fun Fact: If a baker wins the “best baguette in Paris” award, he or shes gets the privilege to supply the president with 40 baguettes every morning for a whole year. The winning baker also wears the French flag on his uniform! Read more about MOF awards here.
We stopped by this small charming boulangerie during our Paris food tour with Paris by Mouth.
Let’s have something sweet at Tout Autour du Pain
We had their Croissant au Beurre (plain butter croissant), a buttery croissant that won second place in 2013 and first place in 2015.
You may be thinking “plain croissant? Meh.” Trust me, this delicious crispy flaky croissant has the perfect texture and just the right amount of butter. What is the right amount of butter though?
We also had the chance to try Turquier’s specialty “fantasy bread” Vannetais, a soft white chocolate milk-based bread that tasted like heaven. White chocolate and bread? Yes, please!
If you pay Tout Autour du Pain in Le Marais a visit, don’t forget to pick up a bag of Chouquettes. These sweet puffs covered with pearl sugar are highly addictive. Incredible. Once you reach into that paper bag and find none left, you know you’re in trouble!
Word of Advice
Remember, if you see the boulangerie person reaching for a “less toasted” or “less pretty” croissant or baguette, don’t feel shy to tell them which one you prefer!
Final Verdict?
The food is delicious and fresh, I would highly recommend all that we tried. The Chouquettes were my absolute favourite of them!
Also, expect a queue outside as locals stand in line to get their daily baguette.
As for the service, it can be better, but I found this to be an issue in many places in Paris.
