PureFit Protein Bar [Product Review]

I’ve been wanting to try PureFit sports nutrition bars for a while now because they’re promoted as being “the all-natural, gluten-free and wheat-free, dairy-free, vegan, kosher, high in protein, diabetic-friendly, that tastes great nutrition bar.”

The PureFit bars follow the Zone Diet (a.k.a. the 40:30:30 Diet): 40% carbs, 30% fat and 30% protein. This combination is proclaimed to reduce heart disease risks, cancer and diabetes.

Let’s Start with the Basics:

Nutritional Facts

  • Serving Size: 1 bar
  • Calories: Between 210-230 Calories
  • Macros: 24-25g Carbs / 10-14g Sugar / 2-4g Fiber / 18g Protein / 6-8g Fat

The amount of calories in the bar is very reasonable compared to the high amount of protein it packs! Not to mention, the ingredients listed are all-natural. There are no artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols (hence no sickly aftertaste), no trans fats and no hydrogenated oils. The bars also have a low glycemic index.

PureFit claims that their product does not melt, so they are also a good choice if you’re on the go!

The PureFit Bar Review

I tasted 4 flavour varieties (listed in order of preference):

  • PureFit Peanut Butter Crunch
  • PureFit Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip
  • PureFit Berry Almond Crunch
  • PureFit Chocolate Brownie

 PureFit Peanut Butter Crunch

I thought I would like the Peanut Butter Crunch PureFit bar the least, but it actually turned out to be my favourite of the four! I just loved the texture and crunch of the bar – it’s as if you are eating crunchy peanut butter straight out of the jar! You could barely taste the soy because of the rich peanut butter flavour.

PureFit Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

My second favourite (also with that deee-licious peanut butter base) was the PB Chocolate Chip flavour. It tastes very similar to the PB Crunch, but with the addition of a few mini chocolate chips. It wouldn’t hurt to throw in more chocolate chips though!

RATING: 3.5/5

PureFit Berry Almond Crunch

The Almond Crunch was the first PureFit bar flavour I sampled. I had it for breakfast to monitor how long it will take for me to get hungry again, which was about 2.5 hours later; pretty sensible for 220 calories!

As for the taste, I love the dried raspberries and cranberries and the addition of crunchy soy crisps inside the bar. However, soy is prominent in the bar and stays in your mouth for a while after so make sure you have something to wash it down with!

RATING: 2.5/5

PureFit Chocolate Brownie

The Chocolate Brownie taste was off. All I could taste was the soy flavour; I had to force it down with lots and lots of water. I wouldn’t recommend this.

Price?

1 Box of 15 Bars = $50 (Priced at 5,000 LBP each), which is fair.

Where to buy PureFit protein bars?

A few pharmacies / health stores stock them in Lebanon. If you buy PureFit protein bars through their Instagram account (by DM), you get a 10% discount!

You can also buy them online. If you used the coupon code “PROMO25”, you get a 25% discount off your first order! But I don’t know how this option applies to residents in Lebanon. The resulting Customs tax would probably make it pointless to import if your objective is to save money.

Final Verdict?

All in all, PureFit bars are not too sweet and have a nice crunch to them. Their texture and presentation is not off-putting compared to some protein bars. I had no stomach problems after having the bar (other protein bars tend to bother me). Also, you are getting 18g of quality protein per bar, so the benefits outweigh the prominent soy flavour in some of the bars.

I would recommend these nutrition bars mostly for their healthy nutritional content and macros. If you wanted to have it as a meal, you definitely should add something (i.e. fruit) with fiber in it, because the amount of fiber found in the bar is pretty low.

I would have these bars as snacks between meals and when I’m on the go; especially in summer (since they supposedly don’t melt). I can’t wait til the other flavours arrive to Lebanon – Granola Crunch / Almond Crunch / Peanut Butter Toffee Crunch (toffee! *drool*).

These bars helped me out when I was taking on the vegan challenge!
