A Mexican Night at Garcia’s with Zomato

Garcia’s, a Mexican restaurant-pub, has moved from Hamra and landed in Blueberry Square, Dbayeh.

We arrived to the meet up 10min early (7.50pm), greeted by the friendly staff. The venue is charming with Spanish music playing in the background. The lights were dimmed; not a plus for a foodie, but the ambiance is lovely.

By the time all the dinner guests arrived I had probably had 3 cups of those sliced carrots in lemon juice, which were divine by the way (but then again anything would taste divine on an empty stomach!).

Guacamole & tortilla chips arrived! Except I don’t eat chips – Guacamole dip for my carrots, Yey!

Salmon Ceviche followed – delicious chunks of perfectly marinated sashimi with guacamole.

Chicken quesadillas & fried chicken strips.

Almost everything is served with their “fully dressed” guacamole, which in my opinion was the highlight of dinner. Garcia’s guacamole is perfect – served cold & with chunks of avocado & diced tomatoes, so it had a nice bite to it.

Oh right, opinion on starters: The quesadillas were delicious. The chicken strips on the other hand tasted like sweet chicken escalope served with an overly sweet honey mustard dip.

Garcia’s Quinoa Salad had white quinoa, shredded red cabbage, fried corn nuts, pomegranate, beans… I would have preferred more beans. I didn’t like the texture. The salad itself lacked body; it was too mushy!

Fajitas! Two iron skillets arrived (with generous portions of beef and chicken), guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo and soft tortillas.

Sorry I know it’s not the best picture; I really did try to make them look more appetizing

The chicken and beef on their own (aka without that delicious heavenly guacamole) were not good. The marination and spices were off. I was actually disappointed since there aren’t many restaurants in Lebanon that serve traditional Mexican fajitas, so I had higher expectations for Garcia’s.

We didn’t stay for dessert. I would come back for guacamole and a drink since they serve some  fancy cocktails here.
